Tour Description

A day to explore Skye...

This one-day adventure takes you through some of Scotland's most iconic scenery – to reach the iconic and beautiful Isle of Skye. You’ll also get to explore Eilean Donan Castle before we return to Inverness.

An enjoyable journey to Skye...
There are fabulous views over the Moray Firth to take in as we leave Inverness over the Kessock Bridge. You’ll enjoy a comfort break in the lovely Kyle of Lochalsh, just situated on the mainland with views to the Skye Bridge

Over the Sea to Skye...
Next you’ll cross onto the little island of Eilean Ban, where Gavin Maxwell, the author of the "Ring of Bright Water", lived for a while before you cross over the bridge to Skye. Your tour of this magical island takes in the stunningly beautiful sight of the Cuillin Hills and the Sligachan Bridge on the road to Portree, the capital of Skye. This will be your lunch-time stop, where you can enjoy fish and chips in the colourful harbour – just watch out for the seagulls!

Discover Scotland’s most iconic Castle...
Eilean Donan Castle* is one of Scotland's most picturesque castles and is perched on its own island at the head of Loch Duich. You will have enough time here to tour the castle inside and out.

Homeward Bound via Loch Ness...
Your day ends with a bit of monster spotting as you drive along the shore of Loch Ness. You'll then stop close to the loch at the little village of Invermoriston, where you can take in the views and see a delightful ruined bridge which was designed by Thomas Telford, the same engineer who created the Caledonian Canal.

Tour Reviews

Richie is a bottomless pit of Highlands knowledge which is great, I love hearing about history and geography, especially in such iconic locations. We stopped off at lots of different locations and Richie even accommodated an extra stop. Skye is beautiful and this trip was a great way to enjoy it all and everything between Skye and Inverness.

We don't have a car, so this trip was our only option to see the Isle of Skye. We weren't disappointed - the views are amazing, even when it's rainy. Our coach driver was Alan and he was great - on the way he told us different stories and legends about Scotland. Also some information about the land, which we as backpackers didn't know. He stopped often to allow us to take photos and the time we got was enough. Although there is a planned lunch stop, I'd recommend you bring your own snacks and use the lunch time to see the town instead.

The Isle of Skye is a long drive from Inverness along narrow country roads, so sitting in the comfort of a bus driven by a safe, experienced driver is the best way to enjoy the stunning, rugged beauty of Skye. Our driver, Alan, was friendly and engaging and provided just the right amount of commentary on the remarkable geology and history of this region of Scotland, including the ill-fated Jacobite rebellions and tragic connection the Isle of Skye has with Bonny Prince Charlie. There were frequent stops along the way to photograph waterfalls and historic sites, the best of which is Eilean Donan Castle on the return leg. All in all it was a long, but very enjoyable day out.

I really enjoyed this trip to the Isle of Skye. Although we didn't have great weather, we were lucky to have Kevin as our tour guide who was very knowledgeable and an exceptional story-teller, so the trip still ended up being a very memorable experience. I highly recommend this tour and would do it again if I got the chance. Thanks again Kevin for such a great day!
