Tour Description

Day 1

Travel west to Loch Lomond then onward to your ferry journey to the Isle of Mull ....

Departing from Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh, we’ll head west to Glasgow to meet the rest of our group. Scotland’s largest Loch, Loch Lomond. Next, we'll be able to enjoy stunning views at the Rest and Be Thankful Pass, before we make a quick stop at Inveraray to see the impressive Clan Campbell castle. Enjoy the grand entrance to the Highlands and watch the landscape begin to change as we drive north to Oban. This is the place to enjoy some of the freshest seafood in Scotland. Oban Distillery* is perched right in the centre of town if you’d like to join a tour and tasting. Or, take a walk up to McCaig’s Tower for views over the town and islands further afield. We’ll then jump aboard our ferry and take the short journey to Craignure, Mull. Keep an eye out for whales, dolphins and even basking sharks. Once on Mull we’ll head north to the colourful fishing port of Tobermory.

Day 2

Explore the rugged beauty of Mull & Iona...

Departing from Tobermory we’ll take a stunning drive, covering the length of the island to Fionnphort, enjoying some beautiful viewpoints along the way. We’ll catch the ferry from here as foot passengers to the tiny island of Iona. Just 3 miles from north to south, this sacred island is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon in peace and tranquillity. You can visit Iona Abbey and Nunnery*, founded by St Columba in 563, and its museum of Celtic heritage and history. Or take one of many excellent walks. We’ll return to Mull on the ferry and make our way back to Tobermory for the evening.

Day 3

Travel through Glen Coe to the Isle of Skye...

On day three we’ll take a ferry from Fishnish to Lochaline, it’s a short crossing and the perfect opportunity to look out for sea eagles. We’ll drive through the remote Glen Geal and make our way past the stunning Lochs Sunart and Linhe on our way to Ardgour, from here we’ll take another short ferry over to Corran. We’ll pass Ballachulish which is surrounded by some of the most strikingly beautiful scenery in Scotland and have time in Glen Coe to take pictures and learn the brutal story of the Massacre of that took place here in 1692.

**Please note at this point you will join a new group of travelling companions and meet your new driver-guide.

You can take in views of Ben Nevis, the UK's tallest peak. As our road nears the coast, it passes Eilean Donan Castle*. Here you have the chance to take photographs and explore the castle that featured in the film Highlander. Then it's time to cross the bridge to Skye.

Day 4

Discover the amazing landscape of the Isle of Skye...

Enjoy a full day exploring the Isle of Skye. Your experienced and knowledgeable guide will ensure you get the most out of your day and enjoy sights such as the craggy Cuillin Mountains, the outstanding beautiful Trotternish Peninsula, The Kilt Rock and Mealt Waterfall, The Old Man of Storr and the Iron Age Dun Beag Broch. Portree is your lunch time stop, where you can enjoy delicious fish and chips next to the harbour– just watch out for the seagulls! Before heading back to your accommodation for a second restful evening you will be able to try an array of different whiskies-yum!

Day 5

Morning of Nessie spotting and arrival to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness... 

You'll visit the most famous Loch in the entire world… Loch Ness.  You can tour Urquhart Castle then hop on a Jacobite Cruise to Nessie spot on the Loch itself. You'll then say goodbye to your driver-guide and group and have an afternoon to explore Inverness, the capital of the Highlands!

**Please note on this day you will leave your Skye driver-guide and meet your new driver-guide on Day 4.

Day 6

Over the sea to the Orkney Isles…

You’ll head north via Inverness and the spectacular coastal scenery of the Moray and Cromarty Firths. Then you board the ferry for a memorable trip to the mysterious and magical Orkney Isles. Once you arrive you can take in the stunning scenery and start exploring. You’ll visit the beautiful Italian Chapel*, which was built by Italian prisoners of war. You’ll also see the famous Churchill Barriers – causeways that were constructed to protect the British naval fleet from submarines.

Overnight: Kirkwall

Day 7

Exploring the ancient history of the Isles…

From your base in Kirkwall, which boasts many craft and gift shops to enjoy, you’ll spend the whole of day three exploring the islands. This is a land full of ancient history and you’ll be able to take in prehistoric marvels such as the Maeshowe* chambered cairn, the world-famous Neolithic village of Skara Brae* and the brooding stone circles of Stenness and the Ring O’Brodgar. The day will finish with a visit to beautiful St Magnus Cathedral.

Overnight: Kirkwall

Day 8

A visit to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness...

You will have a leisurely morning in Kirkwall, which boasts many craft and gift shops to enjoy. In the late morning, we join the ferry ride back to the mainland. Your expert guide will ensure you get the best out of your journey to Inverness, exploring    dramatic coastline. We will be able to visit Dunrobin Castle before reaching your overnight stop, the capital of the Highlands, Inverness.

Day 9

Home via Culloden and the Cairngorms...

 As you head home, you’ll be able to visit the battlefield of Culloden*, the site of the defeat of the Jacobite forces. You’ll also pass the stunning Cairngorm Mountains and explore the picturesque town of Pitlochry.
