Tour Description

On this one-day tour, learn about Scottish history by visiting some of Scotland’s finest castles or find out just how the true spirit of Scotland, single malt whisky, is made.

Depart Inverness…
Our day begins by departing Inverness and heading to Benromach Distillery*. This small independently owned distillery was founded in 1898 and produces just half a million litres of spirit a year. Explore this distillery with an in-depth tour followed by 4 contrasting drams to fully experience the spirit of Scotland. If you don’t fancy this distillery, why not visit the grand, 16th-century, Brodie Castle*, home to over 400 varieties of daffodil and the residence of the Brodie clan for over 400 years, or have some free time to explore the ancient market town of Forres

Heading south…
Leaving Forres behind, we continue our way southward to the Spey. First, we’ll head to Glenfiddich, one of the few distilleries to still remain family owned, for lunch (own expense). While here, why not try a dram or two at their Malt Barn Bar? From Glenfiddich, it’s a short drive down to the Speyside Cooperage* for a chance to see the coopers at work. This is a must see in Speyside, you’ll be amazed at how fast the men build a cask! Over 150,000 casks are produced or repaired here each year.

Homeward  bound
Your final stop of the day before heading home will either be Glenlivet Distillery*, the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, or Ballindalloch Castle*, ‘The Pearl of the North’. Visit Glenlivet Distillery and find out about the Whisky known in Holland as ‘The single malt that started it all’, the whisky who in 2016 hit a new record of selling over 12 million bottles worldwide. Or end your day with a visit to one of the most romantic and renowned Castles in Scotland, located in the heart of Speyside. Ballindalloch Castle, has been continuously lived in by the same family who founded in, the Macpherson-Grants. The choice is up to you.

Tour Reviews

"The tours and tastings were well chosen. Benromach as an example of a smaller, more traditional operation. Glenlivet as an example of a larger and more automated operation. The tasting at Glenlivet included some well-aged whisky. The cooperage tour was quite interesting too. Richie was an excellent driver and guide. He kept us on schedule while giving us the opportunity to stop at beautiful and interesting landmarks." (Andrea September 2018)

I have done two trips with Highland Experience. One to Royal Deeside with Ritchie and one to Applecross with Chris. Both went above and beyond expectations. I am not a 'tour-bus style' traveller. I am adveturous and independant and would much rather be out navigating my own way around. However, this is simply not possible in the vast expanse of Highland countryside. I would not hestitate to reccommend this tour to other travellers of all walks of life. The buses are small so you never feel like you're part of a hoard of tourists desending on the sights. The guides are knowledgeable, flexible and wonderful to be around. The buses are kept in great condition and despite the windy roads, I never once felt travel ill. The landscape is a once in a lifetime experience and Highland Experience is a practical, affordable and charming way to see it.
