3-Day Isle of Skye, Inverness & the Scottish Highlands Tour

Your journey begins in Edinburgh or Glasgow as we travel north into the stunning landscapes of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Our first stop is beside the famous Loch Lomond, the largest freshwater loch in Great Britain. Take time to stretch your legs, enjoy a coffee and admire the views across the water while your guide shares the stories behind the famous Scottish song The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond.

Continuing north, we cross the remote wilderness of Rannoch Moor, one of the last great wild landscapes in Britain. Soon the towering mountains of Glen Coe appear before us.

This dramatic valley is steeped in history and was the site of the infamous Massacre of Glencoe in 1692. Your guide will bring the story to life as you take in the glen’s soaring peaks and cascading waterfalls.

Overnight: Inverness

Today we explore the legendary Isle of Skye, an island famed for its rugged mountains, dramatic coastlines and ancient legends.

Your guide will adapt the day’s route depending on weather and local conditions to ensure you experience the very best of Skye.

One of the island’s most striking features is the Cuillin Mountains, a dramatic ridge of jagged peaks that dominate the island’s skyline.

We travel around the spectacular Trotternish Peninsula, home to some of Scotland’s most extraordinary geological formations.

Here we stop to admire:

• Old Man of Storr
• Kilt Rock
• Mealt Falls

We also visit the colourful harbour town of Portree, the island’s charming capital. With its pastel-coloured houses overlooking the bay, Portree offers a perfect setting for lunch and time to explore.

After a full day discovering Skye’s landscapes, we return to Inverness for another evening in the Highlands.

Overnight: Inverness

Our final day begins beside the mysterious waters of Loch Ness, one of the deepest and most famous lochs in the world.

Here you can choose to join an optional the Jacobite boat cruise* across the loch in search of the legendary Loch Ness Monster while enjoying views of the dramatic ruins of Urquhart Castle.

We then visit the historic Culloden Battlefield, where the final Jacobite uprising ended in 1746. The powerful visitor centre brings the story of the battle vividly to life and offers a moving insight into one of Scotland’s most significant historical events.

Travelling south, we stop in the picturesque Highland town of Pitlochry, set beside the River Tummel. This charming Victorian town has welcomed visitors since the days when Queen Victoria helped popularise Highland tourism.

From here we continue through the Highlands before returning to Edinburgh, where the tour concludes.

Q. How does our accommodation booking service work?

Our tour packages include Bed & Breakfast accommodation or hotel if an upgrade is available. Breakfast is included and may be cooked or continental. Your driver-guide will drop you off and pick you up from the accommodation during the tour.

Q. What do the different room types mean?

• No matter when you visit, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”, to say the least. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket (it has been known to rain in Scotland), sunglasses and plenty of layers.
• Ensure you bring shoes suitable for short walks, on rough or uneven terrain.
• Although most attractions & eating establishments we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you.
• Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!
• Please limit your luggage to 1 x small/medium piece per person (no more than 15kg), along with 1 x small handbag or daypack.

Yes. Glasgow departures check in at 09:30 and leave at 09:45. Edinburgh departures check in at 08:15 and leave at 08:30. Both groups travel together and both return by 19:00 on day three.

Yes, on day three, along with Culloden Battlefield and the Clava Cairns. You can add a cruise on the loch. Being based in Inverness means you reach Loch Ness early rather than at the end of a long drive from Edinburgh.

Yes. Day two is a full day on Skye covering the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, Mealt Falls and the harbour town of Portree. A full day on the island is the difference between photographing Skye and actually walking around it.

Short walks at each stop on paths that are often rough or uneven, rather than hikes. Bring shoes with grip. The tour covers 590 miles over three days, so most of your distance is covered from a seat.

Book two to three months ahead for June through August, since summer departures are the first to sell out. Spring and autumn dates have better availability and quieter viewpoints, and Skye’s weather does what it likes in every season anyway.
