Day 1
Over the sea to the Outer Hebrides
Your journey begins as we head north from Inverness, passing through the wild, remote beauty of Sutherland. Enjoy the spectacular Highland landscapes before arriving in the harbour town of Ullapool, where we board the ferry to the Outer Hebrides. As we sail past the Summer Isles, keep an eye out for dolphins, seabirds, and other marine life.
Ancient history and traditional tweed
Once ashore, our Hebridean adventure begins. First stop is the Arnol Blackhouse*, a traditional stone dwelling where you’ll discover the story of Harris Tweed—the world-famous cloth handwoven by islanders for generations. Then we make our way to Stornoway, the island’s main town, and your base for the next two nights. After settling in to your accommodation, you will have a chance to explore the town.
Overnight: Stornoway
Day 2
Ancient stone circles and Iron Age wonders
After breakfast, we travel to Carloway Broch, one of Scotland’s best-preserved Iron Age towers. Dating back over 2,000 years, this drystone fortress once protected its residents from raiders—and still stands strong today.
Next, we visit the breathtaking Callanish Standing Stones, a mysterious circle of 13 monoliths believed to be over 5,000 years old. You’ll have time to explore the site and learn more in the visitor centre before we enjoy lunch nearby.
Beach beauty and sacred history
This afternoon, we cross into Harris and head for the stunning white sands of Luskentyre Beach—regularly voted one of the best in the world. Then we continue to St Clements Church in Rodel, the burial place of the Clan MacLeod chiefs. This 16th-century church is one of the finest examples of medieval architecture in the Hebrides.
Our return journey follows the winding Golden Road, a scenic route through rocky bays, sea lochs, and scattered crofting communities.
Overnight: Stornoway
Day 3
Lighthouses, legends, and coastal splendour
This morning, we head north to the dramatic Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, the windiest spot in the UK. Standing tall above the crashing waves, this remote beacon has guided ships since 1862.
After time for a final bite to eat in Stornoway, we board the ferry back to the mainland and begin our return journey to Inverness. Sit back, relax, and soak in the ever-changing Highland scenery as your Hebridean escape comes to an end.
*Optional attractions, separate entrance fees apply
**2025 Update: Due to facility closures, we cannot make our usual stop at Callanish Standing Stones, but we’ll drive past, and our drivers will do their best to arrange a drop-off

- No matter when you visit, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”, to say the least. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket (it has been known to rain in Scotland), sunglasses and plenty of layers.
- Ensure you bring shoes suitable for short walks, on rough or uneven terrain.
- Although most attractions & eating establishments we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you.
- Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!
- Please limit your luggage to 1 x small/medium piece per person (no more than 15kg), along with 1 x small handbag or daypack.
