From Edinburgh: 4-day Isle of Skye, Glenfinnan and the Fairy Pools

Our journey into the Highlands begins

As we depart Edinburgh, take in the architecture of the old and new town before we head north to begin our adventure to the Highlands. The first stop will be Callander which is referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. Here, you can visit local shops and grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

Continuing north from Callander, we will pass through the dramatic scenery of the Rannoch Moor, surrounded by lochs and Highland mountains before arriving at the iconic Three Sisters of Glencoe. Enjoy Lunch and the Glencoe Visitors Centre before continuing north.

Next we arrive at Glenfinnan where you’ll discover one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks, the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Walk to the famous viaduct viewpoint for breathtaking views of the railway made famous as the Harry Potter bridge and home of the Jacobite Steam Train, often recognised around the world as the real-life Hogwarts Express.

After visiting the amazing Glenfinnan Viaduct, we head further north where you will cross the bridge onto Skye and arrive at your accommodation for a two-night stay.

Overnight: Isle of Skye

A full day on the Isle of Skye

Our full day on Scotland’s most magical island begins with exploring some of the Island’s most iconic sites including the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock and the Quiraing. Each of these amazing locations displays the enchanting scenery that Skye has to offer.

We will then visit the capital of the island, Portree. A quaint harbour town and the largest town on the island, here you will have time to have lunch, explore the cafes and shops and take in the surrounding coastal views.

After lunch, we will visit Talisker Distillery where you can sample drams from Skye’s most iconic distillery. We then continue to the main highlight of the day, the Fairy Pools.

The stop at the Fairy Pools allows time for the walk to and from the pools and time to take in the amazing scenery when you arrive. Nestled in the shadows of the Cuillin Mountains, these magical pools are a highlight of any trip to the Isle of Skye.

Before returning to the overnight accommodation, we will visit the iconic Sligachan Bridge which is the subject of famous Scottish folklore.

Magical Highlands and Castle Stay

After leaving the Isle of Skye, we will stop at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic and photographed castles. Set on a small island where three sea lochs meet, it’s a highlight for many visitors.

Fort Augustus is a quaint town which sits on the south banks of Loch Ness. Here you will have the opportunity to take in the views of the loch, explore the local shops and enjoy lunch in one of the local cafes and restaurants. As we continue the journey, enjoy the captivating folklore and stories about Loch Ness told by your guide.

On the way to our overnight stay for the evening, your guide will make stops throughout the Eastern Highlands which can include Pitlochry or a local whisky distillery.

For our overnight stay for the evening, we will be staying in the amazing Broomhall Castle. Nestled at the foot of the scenic Ochil Hills near Stirling, Broomhall Castle is a grand 19th-century Scots Baronial mansion known for its dramatic turrets and romantic stone facade. Built in 1874, this picturesque estate offers sweeping views across the countryside toward the iconic Wallace Monument

Overnight: Stirlingshire

For the final day of the tour, we focus on Scotland’s rich history and visit some locations that have played a pivotal role in Scottish history.

For our first stop of the day, we will visit the Wallace Monument. Perched high atop Abbey Craig overlooking the historic city of Stirling, the National Wallace Monument stands as a striking Victorian tower celebrating Scotland’s legendary patriot, Sir William Wallace. Inside, you can ascend the spiral staircase to explore exhibition galleries housing historic artifacts, including Wallace’s famous two-handed broadsword. Reaching the open-air Crown at the summit rewards travelers with breathtaking, panoramic views stretching across the Forth Valley and the historic battlefield of Stirling Bridge.

Next we will visit the iconic Stirling Castle. Explore this iconic fortress dating back to the 12th century, once home to Scottish kings and queens including Mary Queen of Scots. Wander through beautifully restored Great Hall, royal apartments and take in sweeping panoramic views over the surrounding landscape.

After a photo opportunity at the site of the Battle of Bannockburn, we head towards our final stop on the tour, the iconic Kelpies. Rising nearly 100 feet above the surrounding parkland in Falkirk, The Kelpies are the world’s largest equine sculptures and a breathtaking feat of modern engineering. Designed by artist Andy Scott, these towering stainless-steel horse heads honor Scotland’s rich water-borne folklore as well as the working horses that drove the nation’s industrial canal boom.

Relax as we journey back to Edinburgh through central Scotland for arrival in the evening after an amazing 4-days filled with exceptional scenery, expert storytelling and memories to last a lifetime.

It is always advisable to be prepared for any weather in Scotland so a jacket is always a good idea! A bottle of water for hydration and a camera to capture the spectacular views and you are set to go!

It is not necessary for you to bring your own meals, as we will stop throughout the day in small towns or villages where you can purchase food, however you are more than welcome to bring along snacks or a packed lunch.
