Through the wilds of the North-West Highlands
Wave goodbye to Inverness as we travel north, crossing the Kessock Bridge onto the Black Isle. From here, our tour follows part of the North Coast 500 route, winding through some of the most stunning and remote parts of Scotland, including the Black Isle, Loch Carron, and the mountains of the North-West Highlands. As we journey through these wildly beautiful landscapes, you’ll enjoy a short break in the lovely hamlet of Achnasheen, perched beside the River Bran.
Across the Bridge to Skye
We’ll continue west to the small island of Eilean Bàn, where renowned Scottish naturalist and author Gavin Maxwell once lived while observing local wildlife. Eilean Bàn now forms part of the Skye Bridge, which connects the Scottish mainland to the village of Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. We’ll stop here for you to stretch your legs and capture some photos before heading deeper into the Misty Isle.
Enjoy lunch in Portree
We’ll journey past the Cuillin Hills and the Sligachan Bridge, while your driver-guide shares tales of Skye’s rich history and mythology. Then it’s on to Portree, the island’s largest town and a true highlight. Here we’ll stop for lunch, giving you time to explore and enjoy the charming harbour lined with colourful cottages — just watch out for the seagulls!
The wonders of the Fairy Pools*
Next, we’ll visit the Fairy Pools. We’ll spend around 90 minutes here, allowing you to take a gentle walk to this stunning network of blue-green waterfalls and streams. Nestled in the shadow of the Cuillin mountains, these magical pools are a highlight of any trip to the Isle of Skye.
We’ll then begin our journey back to the mainland, stopping at one of Scotland’s most picturesque and iconic landmarks — Eilean Donan Castle. Perched on its own little island at the head of Loch Duich, this breathtaking castle has featured in many films and TV shows thanks to its dramatic setting.
Monster spotting alongside Loch Ness
Your day concludes with a bit of monster spotting as we travel through the Great Glen—a geological fault line that cuts across Scotland—and along the shores of Loch Ness on our return to Inverness.
*Please note: During the winter months, weather conditions may occasionally prevent access to the Fairy Pools. When this happens, our expert driver-guides will adapt the itinerary to suit the conditions, ensuring you still experience some of the Isle of Skye’s other remarkable highlights.
