Departing Inverness
Hop on board as we set off from Inverness’ city centre and embark on an adventure filled day around Scotland’s Highlands to spot monsters, hear myths and see some of Scotland’s most iconic filming locations. Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter) is a particular highlight of this tour; however, the fun doesn’t stop there; you will also see the famous Loch Ness and the Great Glen.
Urquhart Castle: Ruins Steeped In History
We will journey along the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland’s second largest loch, where you will be able to hear the legends of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster and see if you can spot her for yourself!
We will stop for a view of the Urquhart Castle which sits on the shores of the loch, steeped in history. You’ll be able to snap some iconic photographs before we continue the adventure.
Invermoriston – The Inspiration For Peter Pan
We continue down the shores of Loch Ness and onto Invermoriston, where the River Morriston connects to the loch. You will be able to see the original Invermoriston bridge, and Summer House which have spectacular views over the falls and were the inspiration for “Neverland” in JM Barry’s novel Peter Pan.
Travel Through The Great Glen – Discover Scotland’s Lochs And Mountains
We will move further southwest through the Great Glen, a fault line which runs across the width of Scotland, splitting the country in two, where you will be able to enjoy views of the other lochs and mountains that make up the valley, before stopping for lunch at the base of the glen.
Glenfinnan – Relive The Movie Magic Of The Hogwarts Express
We will arrive at Glenfinnan, the pinnacle of our journey! Here you will be able to see the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was engineered by Thomas Telford, and the Jacobite Monument.
Traverse the nearby trails to see the best views of the viaduct, have a chance to see the Jacobite Steam Train and relive the movie magic of the Hogwarts Express as it crosses over. Harry Potter fans will recognise this iconic structure from “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”
Take a stroll down to the shores of Loch Shiel and marvel at the Glenfinnan Monument; the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie first raised his royal standard in the Jacobite Uprisings of 1745.
(Our tour is scheduled to see the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct; however, as the train is operated by a separate company, we cannot guarantee it will run or be on time. This service is seasonal, operating from 7th April to 24th October 2025, but delays and cancellations may occur due to factors beyond our control. On days that the train is not in operation, you will still have the opportunity to visit the viaduct.)
Fort Augustus –Where Loch Ness Meets Highland Charm
Our afternoon stop takes us to the charming village of Fort Augustus, nestled at the southern tip of Loch Ness. With breath-taking views stretching up the loch, it’s a perfect place to pause and take in the scenery.
For those looking to dive deeper into the local history, the Caledonian Canal Centre offers fascinating insights into the canal’s storied past. You can also catch a glimpse of part of Neptune’s Staircase, an incredible set of locks that showcases the canals design and watch the boats gracefully navigate the canal.
Journey Back To Inverness
As we journey back up the south road of Loch Ness on our homeward trip, the views continue to captivate. This scenic route offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the area. Following General Wade’s historic military road, we’re traveling along a piece of history, originally built to connect the Highlands.
The winding path, with its rugged charm and occasional breath-taking viewpoints, makes the return trip just as memorable, before arriving back at Inverness after an action-packed day filled with adventure.
