Our journey begins by departing Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, and heading north. Our route to Skye takes you to the stunning Loch Lomond and through the Trossachs National Park. We'll stop in a picturesque village, where you can relax over a cup of coffee or explore at your leisure. You’ll get stunning views of the UK’s largest expanse of freshwater, Loch Lomond. As you enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Trossachs, your driver-guide will tell you the history and theories behind ‘The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond’ song.
As we continue further north into the Scottish Highlands, watch in awe as the landscape becomes more and more dramatic. Glen Coe is one of the most incredible places to see and visit in Scotland. Learn the brutal story of the MacDonald Clan massacre and take in the weeping waterfalls that inhabit this incredible glen.
As we drive through Glen Coe, we’ll make our way to the Highland town of Fort William. This town marks the end of Scotland’s oldest and most popular long-distance walks, The West Highland Way. There is a resting hiker statue looking out over Loch Linnhe. Here, you can take in views of Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest peak. Standing at 1,345 metres above sea level, it is often known to both locals and visitors as simply "the Ben”. Make sure to grab a bite to eat whilst exploring the town before we head to our next stop.
As our journey nears the coast, we’ll pass by the stunning Eilean Donan Castle*. Here you have the chance to take photographs and see the castle featured in the film Highlander. It’s stunning location, perched on its own little island overlooking the Isle of Skye, means it’s hard to get a bad shot of this castle. It’s often chosen as the feature for many shortbread tins and Scottish calendars. After a day of exploring it's time to cross over the bridge to the Isle of Skye, our final resting stop and home for the next two evenings.
Overnight: Isle of Skye
Day 2 will be spent enjoying and exploring the Isle of Skye. Your experienced and knowledgeable driver-guide will ensure you get the most out of your day based on the weather, your group and the local events. Enjoy sights such as the craggy Cuillin Mountains, the Trotternish Peninsula, The Kilt Rock, Old Man of Storr and Mealt Waterfall.
Overnight: Isle of Skye
We’ll say goodbye to the Isle of Skye and begin our journey south back to Edinburgh. The first stop of our day will be a visit to the most famous loch in the entire world…Loch Ness. This Loch is one of Scotland’s largest. It is so large that the entire population of the world could fit into it and it has got a monster in it too! You will have time to explore Urquhart Castle*, perched perfectly on the banks of Loch Ness. With over 1000 years of history, there’s lots to see here. Climb Grant Tower and look over the iconic loch, peer into a gloomy prison cell said to have held the legendary Gaelic bard Domhnall Donn, and dream of splendid banquets that would have taken place in the great hall.
Kelly was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable, fun, and contentious. The sites were gorgeous, bus was well-maintained, history provided was exactly what I was looking for. Perfect 3-day Isle of Skye tour.
I just wanted to bring to your attention the outstanding efforts of one of your tour guides, John McCulloch. My friend and I recently took the 3-day Isle of Skye tour with John on Oct 5, 6, 7. On the first day of this tour, I asked John about some places I was hoping we could stop, as I was planning to scatter a small amount of my Mom's ashes on the Isle of Skye, and was looking for the perfect place. Due to rain, we couldn't stop at the place I was hoping, but John said, not to worry that he would help me find the perfect location the following day. The next day, John helped me to choose a beautiful location overlooking the sea. To my complete surprise, John had brought a bottle of whisky for the entire group to toast my Mom. John said a few really thoughtful words and led us in the toast. The moment could not have been more perfect. John's thoughtfulness made a very difficult moment so very special. I will never forget this trip, and this special moment to say a final goodbye to my Mom. The rest of the tour was also amazing! This is my third trip with your company, and I will most definitely be back again soon, and will request that John be my tour guide! (We also did the St. Andrews tour on Oct 10th with Stephen J, and he was so nice too!!) I wanted to make sure the Highland Experience management team was made aware of John's actions, and that he receive the recognition that he deserves. His knowledge, sense of humour, flexibility, and thoughtfulness made this trip an experience to remember.
We decided to see what it was like to join a tour to explore Scotland for the short amount of time we had. We chose a smaller passenger tour for this. We had a great time! It was very relaxing to let Steven H. do the driving. He gave us lots of information and was good at letting us know what was ahead or on the schedule for the day. He kept things light, entertaining, and fun. We were very happy with our tour experience and enjoyed everything about it.
I will send you more detailed comments in a separate email. The only reason I awarded 2 stars to the “overall experience” is that I very much enjoyed the other tour members on this “experience” and the stop at SkyeSkins was interesting and fun. The van was fine, even though the door was damaged by the high winds. My hotel was horrible. Staying in Broadford instead of Portree was dismal for everyone in the group. And the tour guide was often uncommunicative, surly, and inflexible. I’ve taken a lot of tours (in fact, I am on another one right now with a different company, and it is fabulous) and this was the worst tour experience I’ve ever had.
Everything were outstanding. We had a truly magical experience in the Isle of Skye thanks to our tour guide John. He went above and beyond to experience everything from the Skye. Thank you very much for the great experience. We will be back.
